There are some big events looming on the horizon that I need to remind you about. Almost every weekend lately has had something major planned. This week, I'm going to concentrate on getting all of the details out about the events slated for Saturday, August 4.

I have personally been working on trying to get the word out on the upcoming Art in the Country: Fine Art and Author Festival that will be held north of Crow on Saturday, August 4, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the corner of Central and Fleck Roads.

If we have a good turnout this year, we hope to make it an annual event. Besides my role in promoting it, Jen Chambers and I were asked to oversee the Oregon Author table, and we will have 23 Oregon authors there to sell and autograph a wide variety of books that they have published. We have amazing talent in Lane County and we are honored to have three columnists from the Sunday Register-Guard participating—hiking guru, William Sullivan; humorist, Leigh Anne Jasheway; and Dorcas Smucker, who writes from the heart. Also taking part are West Lane writers: John Daniel, David Tucker, Michael Foster and Jennifer Chambers. Evelyn Searle Hess and I represent the Lorane area. I won’t try to list them all here, but each is very good at what they do. You can see the schedule for each, as well as a photo and bio on our Art in the Country Facebook page.

There will also be a wide variety of artists who represent many kinds of medium. For our area, Margie McNutt and Michael Matchulat will be sharing a booth with their fused glass and metal art respectively, and they have also been featured online, as will some of the other artists and musicians who will be at the festival.

We’ll have a Live Music stage and a Spoken Word stage. There will be food booths and a kids’ zone and eating areas. Our beer and wine garden has not yet been finalized, but we are working hard on providing that, as well. More information can be found on area bulletin boards and on our Facebook page, call Vicki Sourdry, 541-935-3636, or email me at paedwards42@yahoo.com.

The same day is a big one for Lorane residents, too. It is the Lorane Community-Wide Sale and besides table rentals at the Lorane Grange, there are over 16 addresses where other sales are happening listed on the map which can be picked up at any of the locations. It will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 4.

A third event on August 4 is the 9th Annual Crow Grange’s Chicken ‘n Pickin’ BBQ to be held at the grange from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Full half-chicken dinners cost $10. Entertainment will be provided by the Poodle Creek Pickers, and new this year is a Classic Car Show. For more information, contact Connie Suing or check out the Crow Community Facebook page.

If you’re really ambitious that day, you can attend all three really great events!

Next week, I’ll tell you all about the Lorane Community Picnic/Potluck, the Lorane Ice Cream Social and the unveiling of the beautiful new mural, all happening on Sunday, August 12.
