Myckenna Hurst connects at the plate for the Lady Dawgs against Harrisburg.

Inconsistent pitching and fielding cost the Lady Dawgs as they fell 2-18 to visiting ninth-ranked

Harrisburg on May 1 in the first of three softball games last week.

Morgan Janshen and Gracelynn Ehrich each went 1-for- 2 and scored. Jenessa Mallory went 1-

for-2 with an RBI and Hallie Drago went 1-for- 3.

"Harrisburg is just a good team," said Coach Brett Giles. "They took advantage of every mistake

we made."

On May 3, Creswell fell 2-8 to host Coquille. The Lady Dawgs were scoreless until the seventh

inning, when Mallory (1-for- 3) smacked a two-RBI double. Ehrich went 1-for- 3 and scored;

Janshen and Destiney Black were each 1-for- 3; and Lexi McCrory scored.

"We only had one error and played really well in the field, but we came out flat for hitting," said

Assistant Coach Risa Bryant.

In the pitcher's circle, Black gave up five earned runs on five hits, struck out six, walked six and

hit one batter with the pitch.

On May 4, Creswell fell 5-14 to visiting Pleasant Hill in a makeup game. The score was tied 5-5

after three, but then the Lady Dawgs' bats went cold and they tallied six errors in the field.

"We came out a lot stronger from the plate, but once we lost momentum our hitting went down

and we started making more errors," Bryant said.

Black went 1-for- 4 with a double and three RBIs; Kelsey Kuhnhausen went 3-for- 4 with a

double and an RBI; Janshen went 2-for- 4 with a double and a run; Mallory had an RBI; Aubrie

Hatch scored two runs; and Izzy Ramirez and Hallie Drago each scored.

Black gave up 10 earned runs on 10 hits, struck out 10 and walked seven. "Destiney started

strong, lagged in the middle, and in the end got a couple of good strikeouts to keep them from

scoring more," Bryant said.

The Lady Dawgs wrap regular season play this week, hosting La Pine and traveling to Glide

before hosting Pleasant Hill for their Senior Night game on Friday.

"Our fielding is coming along, but we need to focus on our bats and start hitting better – and

we're leaving too many runners on base," Bryant said. "If we can do that, whether we make

league playoffs or not, we can send off our two seniors with a fun ending to their season."
