Smith, Allen pace Dawgs at JC track and field meet

Gauge Smith won the boys' 100m and Cali Allen won the girls' javelin as Creswell Bulldogs track and field boys placed fifth and the girls placed seventh during the Junction City Invitational, held April 7.

Smith won the 100m in 12.02a, while Allen won the javelin at 119-09.

In other scoring finishes for the Bulldog boys, Nick Bronson placed fourth in the 200m in 25.43a and eighth in the 110m high hurdles in a personal-best 21.50a; Chance Bellew placed fifth in the 400m in a personal-best 59.32a and Miguel Lopez placed sixth in a personal-best 1:04.65a; and Grant Marshall placed fourth in the 800m in a personal-best 2:20.32a.

Zach Culp placed third in the long jump at a personal-best 20-04.75, Andrew Cox placed fourth at a personal-best 19-04.5, Edgardo Rodriguez placed fifth at 18-11.25 and Smith placed sixth at a personal-best 18-10.

Also scoring for the Creswell girls, Shelby Lamm placed seventh in the 100m in 14.64a and fifth in the 200m in 29.52a; Hannah Bettis placed fifth in the 100m high hurdles in 19.07a and Allen placed sixth in 21.03a; and Bettis placed second in the 300m intermediate hurdles in 55.51a.

East Linn Christian topped boys' and girls' team standings, while the host Tigers placed second.

Allen also competed in her first heptathlon, the Summit Decathlon-Heptathlon, hosted by Summit High School on March 30-31. There, Allen placed seventh overall with a score of 2898 after competing – against athletes from larger schools – in seven events: the 200m, 800m, 100m hurdles, shot put, javelin, high jump and long jump.

Allen won the javelin, placed fourth in the 100m hurdles, sixth in the high jump and eighth in the long jump on her way to her seventh-place finish.

"This was the first time she has competed in some of these track events and she had great marks," said Creswell Head Coach Jonathan Ferguson.
