Verna Nona Warwick

Verna Nona Warwick of Creswell died Jan. 20, 2010 of age-related causes. She was 90.

She was born Feb. 15, 1919 in Liberal, Kan. to Robert and Verna Zimmerman Birchell. She married Thomas Allen Warwick on Apr. 26, 1947 in Las Vegas, Nev. He died June 9, 2002.

Prior to relocating to Creswell eight years ago to be with her daughters, she lived in Redding, Sun Valley and Lynwood, Calif., as well as Victor, Colo.

During her younger years, she was proud to be known as a "Rosie the Riveter" for North America Aviation. She spent more than 60 years as a sheet metal worker, and was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union during that time.

She was a dedicated homemaker. She loved her large extended family, her friends and her dog Buddy. She also loved to travel, most recently to Hawaii, and was always ready to go on any adventure.

She was proud of her three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, and will be missed by all.

She is survived by: two daughters, Nona Applegate of Creswell and Marjorie Stewart and her husband Bill of Oregon; a sister, Vida Paul, of Santa Clarita, Calif.; a granddaughter, Dana Clark of Tacoma, Wash.; two grandsons, David Clark of Kent, Wash. and Thomas Applegate of La Pine, Ore.; and six great-grandchildren, Nathan Clark, Jason Powell-Clark, Kirstin Town, Kayla Applegate, Brittney Applegate and Zoie Town.

Her son-in-law Thomas Applegate, five sisters and three brothers predeceased her.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Meals on Wheels or your local Humane Society. No services are planned. Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel of Cottage Grove is in charge of arrangements.
