Thelma I. Perini

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 15 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Cottage Grove for Thelma I. Perini, of Creswell, who died Jan. 8, 2010, of heart-related causes. She was 76.

She was born Feb. 3, 1933, in Nisland, South Dakota to Frank and Josephine Sevareid McDonald. She married Richard LeRoy Perini on Apr. 23, 1955 in Eugene.

In 1941, she moved to Cottage Grove, where she grew up and attended school. She graduated from the nursing program at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eugene. For many years, she worked for Dr. Abbott and later as surgical recovery nurse at Cottage Grove Hospital before her retirement in 1985.

She enjoyed camping, crafts and cooking. She was active in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Cottage Grove.

She is survived by: her husband; a son Richard "Rick" Perini and his wife Lyrae, of Gilbert, Ariz.; two daughters and their husbands, Denise and Jody Turpin of Creswell and Deborah and Tim Merrell, of Tyler, Texas; three nieces; a nephew; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

A son, Ronald William Perini, and a sister, Erma Stulken, predeceased her.

A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 14 at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove. Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
