Dawgs honor seniors, lock up third place

The Creswell Bulldogs honored two senior team members, posts Jacob Spriggs and Calvin Tharp-Jackson, and senior team manager Ben Prater during a Senior Night ceremony held before tipoff of the Dawgs’ game against Pleasant Hill, their final regular season home game.
The families of all three boys joined them on the court to congratulate them, presenting balloons, snacks and other gifts. Head Coach Jesse Thomas presented each senior with a framed action photo, and letters of appreciation and favorite sports memories from each senior were read aloud.
“They’re both great kids and good teammates – they never complain and they’re always happy when we win, whether they’ve played two minutes or two quarters,” Thomas said.
Spriggs and Tharp-Jackson both got the start against the Billies, but didn’t play many minutes as Creswell got off to a slow start in what became an intense defensive battle that forced the Bulldogs to rely largely on outside shooting.
Creswell ended the first quarter without a field goal and down 2-7. But freshman Tyler Frieze came in and drained a couple of three-pointers in the second quarter to boost the Dawgs to within two at 14-16 at the half.
Another Frieze three gave the Dawgs a 17-16 lead less than a minute into the third quarter, and Creswell never trailed again. With Chance Bellew also hitting from beyond the arc, the Bulldogs ended the period up 29-26.
