Creswell man arrested after vehicle, foot chase

Christopher James Fent

A Creswell man, Christopher James Fent, 43, was arrested on Jan. 15 by Springfield police following a routine traffic stop that led to a pursuit by vehicle and on foot.
Fent pulled over after an officer initiated a stop near 14th and Main Streets in Springfield Friday morning, but then took off driving eastbound on South A Street.
The officer reportedly learned that Fent was being sought by another agency in connection with domestic violence, menacing and violation of restraining order charges.
After Fent crashed into another vehicle near 32nd and Main Streets, his vehicle came to a stop near South 34th and Main, and Fent fled the vehicle on foot.
Near the end of the pursuit, Fent jumped a fence on South 34th Street and ran east across Pride Park.
He reportedly advanced toward an officer with something metal in his hand. According to police, Fent repeatedly asked the officer to shoot him.
The officer attempted to deploy his Taser, but it malfunctioned. Fent was subsequently arrested without further incident by the pursuing officer and others who had arrived on scene.
Fent was booked into Lane County Jail on Possession of Methamphetamine, Hit-and-Run, Reckless Driving, Elude by Foot and Elude by Vehicle charges.
