CHS equestrians have strong debut in season-opening meet

Now nine competitors strong and growing in skill and confidence as well as numbers, Creswell High School equestrian team had a solid season debut last weekend during Oregon High School Equestrian Teams (OHSET) South Valley District’s Meet 1, held Feb. 3-5 at Oregon Horse Center in Eugene.
“We had an outstanding weekend,” said Creswell Head Coach Lauri Thomas. “Gaming day produced some fast times, with our athletes scoring high and earning PRs, and our performance athletes also did very well.”
In cow events, the CHS team of Levi Bones, Grace Haga and Sami Bosch placed seventh in team penning. In performance events, Haga placed fifth in Hand Trail and Tori Radke was 14th in Showmanship.
On Sunday, CHS athletes made strong showings in gaming events. In Individual Flags, Walpole placed second with a time of 9.883. Jane Marquess placed third in 10.435, and Bosch was 12th in 14.428.
Marquess also placed third in Figure 8 with a time of 11.432. “Jane was smoking fast,” Thomas said.
Thomas also noted the team “had five barrel racers in the top 22.”  Hope Walpole led the team with a time of 16.059. Bosch was close behind, with a time of 16.176.
Bosch placed seventh in Keyhole with a time of 8.284.
In Birangle, CHS teams placed 14th, 17th, 23rd and 32nd.

The second of three OHSET South Valley District meets of the season will be held March 3-5 at Oregon Horse Center.
